Curved roof rails or awning rafters are designed to help overcome two of the most common pain points caravanners experience with roll out awnings

1. Wind Flapping - Noisy and annoying flapping will not only lead to a very restless nights sleep it can cause damage to the awning, frameset, roller and fabric.
2. Water Pooling - Without roof rafter installed, there may be excessive slack in the awning fabric providing a great spot for water to pool. This excess weight on the awning will very quickly lead to damage 

Most cheaper brands of rafters will have sharp square edges on the top of the rafter's profile. The Supex rafter is designed with a rounded top face and side edges to avoid damage to the awning fabric. Prolonged use of a rafter with sharper square edges can lead to weak spots and eventually holes and or tears in the awning.

The end spigot and bracket attachment at both ends are made from a stainless steel fitting moulded into a glass filled nylon end cap. This significantly increases the strength and reliability of the most vulnerable part of the awning rafter.

How many rafters do I need?

The amount of rafters required depends on the length of your awning awning.

• Awnings under 12' we recommend atleast 1 roof rafter
• Awnings 12' - 16' feet in length we recommend at least 2 roof rafters
• Awnings 17' - 20' feet in length we recommend at least 3 roof rafters
• Awnings 21' and above we'd recommend at least 4 roof rafters

Installation

1. Simply attach the supplied bracket to the vehicle using 2 screws appropriate for the cladding
2. Extend your awning out to the fully opened position making sure the key way is facing down
3. Drill a hole in the awning tube at an appropriate height
4. Ensure you deburr the hole with a file to avoid fabric damage when rolling the awning up.

Slight Curved roof rafter vs Acute Curve 

This listing is for a rafter with an acute curve, Supex also make this same style rafter in an slight curve. A slight curve has an offset of ~25-35mm when extended to 2.4m compared to an acute curve rafter which has an offset of ~65-75mm when extended to 2.4m in length. 

A slight curve rafter would be perfect for newer awnings or if you just need to add some support to your awning without stretching the fabric too much.

An acute curve rafter would provide a bit more tension to the canopy for better protection against wind flap and water pooling in older awnings or those which have more existing sag.
