Two ways to lock it up
For a run of gear spread across the site, choke hitch one end to a fixed point and padlock the other end back onto the cable. Over short distances, or when you're locking dual-axle wheels, just run the cable through and padlock the two loops together. Here's the long-run method.

Anchor it
Wrap one end around the drawbar, A-frame or another fixed point, then feed the cable back through its own loop to form a choke hitch. It pulls up tight and won't slide off.

Thread it through
Run the loose end through chair frames, BBQ handles, table legs, fridge handles, jerry can holders, whatever you want to keep, working out and back. Then pass a padlock through the free loop and back around the cable run itself, click it shut, and head off for the day. Under a minute, start to finish.

The cable is sold on its own, so the lock is your call. Any padlock you already own will do the job, or pair it with our Mini Cable Lock and skip carrying keys altogether.

The loops are generous enough to take a normal shackle, so whatever is already rattling around in the drawer will work. Brass or stainless holds up best near the coast.

Does the security cable come with a padlock?
No. The Promore Products Stainless Steel Security Cable is supplied as the cable only, with a fixed loop at each end. Use any standard padlock you already own, or pair it with the Promore Products Mini Cable Lock, which uses a resettable 4 digit combination instead of a key.
Which length should I buy?
Work out how far the cable needs to travel out to your gear and back again, then round up to the next size. As a guide: 2m suits a dual-axle wheel lock or a single item like the spare tyre, 5m covers a BBQ, table and a couple of chairs, 10m handles a typical full campsite run back to the drawbar, and 15m or 20m suits larger sites, generators, bikes and group camps.
How do I attach the cable to my caravan?
Wrap one end around the drawbar, A-frame or another fixed point on the van, then pass the cable back through its own end loop to form a choke hitch. The loop pulls up tight against the fixed point so the cable cannot be slipped off, and no lock is needed at that end.
Can it be cut?
Any cable can be defeated by someone determined enough with the right tools. This one is designed to stop opportunistic theft, the walk-past grab that accounts for most camp and caravan park losses. A visible 4mm hardened stainless cable running through your gear makes it a job rather than a moment, and that is usually enough for someone to move on.
Will it rust at coastal sites?
The cable is stainless steel, so it resists the corrosion that would have a galvanised or plain steel cable staining within a season. After a stint near salt water, give it a rinse with fresh water and let it dry before coiling it away. Worth using a brass or stainless padlock too, since a cheap plated padlock is usually the first thing to seize up.
Can I use it as a wheel lock on a dual-axle caravan?
Yes. Run the cable through and between both wheels on one side, then padlock the two end loops together. The 2m length is the right pick for this, since a longer cable just leaves slack that has to be dealt with.
What else can I secure with it?
Anything with a frame, handle or hole to thread through. Camp chairs, BBQs, portable fridges, solar panels, generators, jerry cans, bikes, gear on roof racks, and firewood or gear tied off to a tree at a free camp. The longer lengths let you link several items in one run so they all have to move together.
Will it mark my paint or gear?
It is bare stainless cable, so on polished alloy, painted panels or a nice powder-coated frame it pays to slip a rag or an offcut of garden hose over the cable at the contact point. On chair frames, tyres and BBQ handles it makes no difference.
What is the difference between this and the Mini Cable Lock?
The security cable is 4mm hardened stainless in lengths from 2m to 20m, and needs a separate lock. The Mini Cable Lock is a self-contained 3.5mm PVC-coated cable with a built-in combination lock and a total reach of 1.2m, so about 600mm out and back. The Mini is the grab-and-go option for one or two items close together. The security cable is what you want when gear is spread across the site. Plenty of people run both.
